I like this article because in one line it says just how easy it is to think one thing when really another things all together is happening. In this case, when it comes to time management, much of the time we feel like “where did the time go?” and we feel that the time we were being productive because we were “busy”. Well this article explains why that may be such an illusion. Read on for more!

Time management seminars usually focus on “getting more done in less time.” Sounds pretty good right? I thought so too, until I started coaching and found that the majority of my clients were wasting more time being busy than they could ever waste doing “nothing.” Think about it: if you fill your schedule with tasks which COULD be delegated to one of your team members, what are you missing out on? Most of the time, it’s the ability to engage your most valuable tool for creating positive change: your creative imagination.

Napoleon Hill said it well:

“More gold has been mined from the thoughts of man than has ever been taken from the earth.”

This “mining” is done by tapping into the creative imagination, and the only way to do this is turn the volume down on the other “white noise activities” in your life. As you’re reading this, is it possible that you’re pursuing success and achievement with such haste and intensity that you’re blurring right past it?

Let’s look at some solutions for getting out of the trap of busyness and moving towards effectiveness…

Find and Protect Your Sanctuary

Every leader needs a sanctuary from the noise of activity and busyness in their life. For Jesus, it was long walks in the wilderness, sometimes for days or months at a time. For me, it’s been the beach with nothing more than my dog and a notepad. What will it be for you? It doesn’t matter really, what matters is that it’s a place you can protect from ANY potential distractions.

In other words, don’t take anything with you that will remind you of what you’re “missing” back in the “real world.” No cell phone, no lap top, no blackberry, no time keeping devices (watches etc). Just you and your thoughts, and some means of writing down your thoughts if you were to be suddenly struck with a good idea.

Most of us are astounded at the wealth of wisdom and insight which exists on the inside of them. In one afternoon at your sanctuary, you could get the idea that sends your life in an entirely new direction. For example, after working for 5 years as a coach and refining the methods that helped people to get true results, I took a week long sabbatical to Long Boat Key. After the first three hours of lying on the beach, I had the entire foundation of Value Driven Transcendence down on paper.

Now, here’s the hard part…

Get Ready to Face What You’ve Been Running From

Whenever one of my really busy clients starts doing this, they are almost always struck with a feeling of meaninglessness which Victor Frankly calls the “existential vacuum” (See “Man’s Search for Meaning”). This is what happens when you get used to cramming your life with activities for the sake of feeling “successful” and suddenly stop to have a look at what’s really happening inside you.

While this is hard for ALL of us to face at first, once you do you’ll discover one of the most fundamental truths of becoming a person of influence:

“The person who faces themselves can face anything.”

So go find your sanctuary, visit it often, protect it from distraction, for there you’ll find your happiness, your courage and a wealth of creativity and power that’s been awaiting you.

When we become parents, time management becomes even more of a necessity. Our workload increases dramatically. Not only do we have to manage ourselves, but we have to manage others as well. Having a good system in place will cause the minimal amount of disruption to the family and to the parents as well. Single parents have it even tougher and will really need good time management systems in place to keep things running smoothly.

As a working parents, you need to juggle between you work and family. Which is more important and which should be prioritized? These are the questions which are always faced by parents. Letting loose either side would only wait for problems to surface. Although time management can be easily applied at work, parents often faced difficulties in organizing their household activities as in like the household chords, picking and sending kids to school, and spending quality time with kids. Time management is important and should be applied to balance both your work and family.

It is not easy to cope with a changed lifestyle when you become a first time parent. Fortunately, through certain proven and helpful instructions in time management, parents would be able adapt much better to the new setup.

- Do whatever that deemed important

As parents, you have to identify what is important and has to attend to immediately. This is part of the skill in time management which you have to master. Recognized the fact that you are no more alone, you still have your little ones to take care. They are definitely your main obligation.

I am not saying that you can put your job aside. No, to do that would only put you and your family’s finances at stake. You have to handle different situations differently. Determine what your top priority is, and make sure you go to the next in list as soon as you have completed you top priority.

To have good time management, you can also list down whatever has to be done on that day. Prioritize them base on the degree of urgency. With the list, you will not only able to do the important activity first but also able to complete a day’s duties.

- Share your work loads at home

Traditionally, it is not uncommon that the household chores are the wives job. It is, however not quite true today. Husbands can now come into the picture in helping out with the household chores. With two pairs of hands working at the same time, the household chores can be completed at a faster rate, leaving you with more time for you kids or other jobs.

Grown up kids can also share the work load with the parents. Parents can teach their children to be responsible by getting them to tidy up their rooms, make their own bed and even wash their own clothes. That way, each and every family member has their own duty to accomplish; chores can be done at a shorter time. All these are positive results brought about by good time management.

- Plan out in advanced

To plan out in advanced is a must in good time management because it ensure that you complete the tasks in time and that every things is done within the set timing.

When it comes to the time when a mother or some time a father, has to cook for the family, he or she may delay for a while to figure out what to cook for dinner. It is advisable to plan out your menu beforehand so that when its time to cook for the family, you already know what to cook.

An efficient time management also requires you to plan your shopping list and time beforehand. Without a shopping list, you stand a chance to miss an item that you need to buy. Time would be wasted if you have to come back again to get the item. With a shopping list, not only you will not miss any item, but will also finish your shopping at a much shorter time.

To have effective time management is crucial for parents nowadays, especially when time have to be spent on both family and work. Learning and applying the tips above will not only help parents to complete all necessary tasks, but also have more time to spend with the family.

Time management is realy another name for task management. The better you can play the game of task management, the better you can win at getting your time back. There are many strategies and tactics that a person, business owner, student or employee can use to get the most effectiveness out of their time. When it all comes down to it, it’s about having a clear plan and the focus to implement that plan. When that happens, all of the other distractions that suck up your time fall by the wayside.

Each and every day, all of us continually search for the extra edge to win the time management game.

One of the most overlooked areas in implementing a time management system is the importance of differentiating between “chores” and “projects”. In the end, our time management strategies should be centered upon the completion of projects.

However, more often than not, we end up repeatedly doing the same chores in an effort to feel more productive.

Chores Versus Projects

If you are concerned with the importance effective use of your time, you must learn to differentiate between chores and projects.

A chore, as I define the term, is an item that, while needing to be done, does not accomplish a long term goal. A chore is akin to a ritual that must be completed week to week. A, chore, if left undone, can be delayed until another day. Mowing the yard, washing clothes, and buying groceries are all examples of chores.

Projects are items that usually involve multiple steps and take longer to complete than chores. Projects usually need to be completed once and provide a significant long term advantage when completed. Usually completion of one step is necessary before we can move to the next step. Painting the house, remodeling the kitchen or renovating a rental property are all examples of projects.

Completing Chores Is Not The Key To Long Term Success

We all want to feel productive.

With respect to widely managing our time, many times we sacrifice the long term satisfaction of completing a project for the short term gain of doing a chore.

However, when we understand the importance of managing our time over the long term, we realize that we really are not accomplishing anything at all. Over the course of a month, we will have exactly the same number of items to complete. Grass grows, clothes get dirty and food is eaten.

These tasks must be repeated each week.

While it is very satisfying to get things done, unless it makes a real long term improvement to our life, it does us no good.

Completing Projects Is The Key To Winning The Time Management Game

Unlike performing a chore, when you complete a project you must complete each step once and your efforts are rewarded continuously over a long period of time. When you remodel the kitchen, you do it once and enjoy the benefits and convenience of a modern kitchen everyday thereafter for a long period of time.

The problem with completing a project is that it usually cannot be done quickly and involves multiple steps. The emotional payoff is delayed until all of the steps are completed. Many people are unable to implement a time management strategy that spans multiple weeks or even multiple days.

Their time management system focuses on what needs to be done today. As a result, they never get around to permanently accomplishing the longer term projects.

A Time Management Strategy For Completing Projects

In the end, it is easy to develop a time management strategy to win the time management game. Simply break projects down into smaller steps. Each step can then be completed in a short period of time and over a period of days or weeks.

If you need to remodel the house, the project can be broken down into several component parts. Each of these parts can be performed (usually once) over a period of time.

We get the daily or weekly emotional payoff of completing a goal along while reaping the long term, permanent, benefits of completing an important project.

Think Long Term To Win The Time Management Game

The key to developing a winning time management strategy is to implement a time management system that emphasizes the long term completion of important projects over the short term emotional payoff of busy work.

By breaking important projects down into smaller steps, you can reap the short term emotional payoff of getting things done along with the long term benefits associated with completion of an important project.

Nursing task management can truly create a lot of time in a nursing students schedule. There are a few strategies that nursing students and nurses can use to make their day more productive. The nursing profession is very busy, and the more productive a nurse can be, the more effective they are in their job. In this article, the author talks about how nursing students can increase their productivity easily.

One of the things that new nurses struggle with is managing their time and becoming highly productive.

Nursing is a demanding career and requires you to practice a lot of patience as well as learn and apply a highly effective time management system to truly stay on top of the game.

Here are three easy steps you can follow to increase productivity and manage your time better starting today.

1. Write everything down.

In a highly demanding career like nursing, things moves so fast that it is almost impossible to try to do keep in your head still remember anything.

You need to realize that your head is the worst place to put valuable information.

It is very good at doing calculations and making decisions but it is not a very effective tool to memorize things especially when things are changing so fast.

It takes far less effort to write these things down instead of trying to store everything in your head.

2. Learn to Prioritize.

If there is any profession where you have to learn to prioritize effectively and quickly – it’s probably nursing.

As a nurse you need to learn to prioritize your most important activities on the fly. The easiest ways to do this is to practice.

Don’t expect yourself to go on the floor and be able to prioritize in an instant.

This takes a lot of practice and the easiest way to start is when you are not on the floor. Get started with every day activities and prioritize them.

This will give you a lot of practice as well as confidence to prioritize when you’re in a stressful environment.

3. Learn to be an Effective Time manager

Among all the productivity tips and tools that you can use, the one thing that will boost your productivity more than anything else is understanding the core principles of nursing time management.

Learn how the 80/20 rule works in your profession. Understand how you can use Parkinson’s law to increase productivity and save time everyday.

Applying time management tips for nurses will increase your productivity and reduce nursing stress dramatically. That’s a promise!

Nursing is one busy profession that requires a lot of time management skills to be able to keep up with all of the tasks that are involved with a typical Nursing assistant job. For those nursing assistants that come in with no time management skills, it can be a hard road. Read on for more about time management and nursing assistants.

Do your CNAs know what their time at work is worth? Here’s an example: Mary makes $12.00 an hour as a nursing assistant. She works eight hours every day. So what is Mary’s time at work worth? Every day is worth 96 dollars. Every hour is worth 12 dollars. Every minute is worth 20 cents. When you do the math for your CNAs, how much money do you think is wasted at your workplace? Here is some information about time management that you can share with your nursing assistants.

What’s Your Time Worth?

Studies have shown that the average American actually works only 6 hours of each 8 hour day. The rest of the time is wasted! Why? Those same studies say that people waste time because:

They are too tired to get through their work.

They get involved with personal matters at work.

They aren’t organized.

Or, they spend too much time socializing.

Mary makes $12.00 an hour as a CNA. If Mary actually worked only 6 out of 8 hours every day, that would mean that in a year, she would waste $6,240.00. Let’s say that Mary has 25 coworkers who also make $12.00/hour. If those coworkers also waste two hours every day, Mary’s workplace will lose nearly $156,000.00 every year in wasted time!

Some people might say, “So what? My workplace makes lots of money. They won’t miss $156,000.” But that would be wrong. The more money a workplace loses, the less it has for employee raises or for improving working conditions! So, people who waste time at work are hurting themselves in the long run.

Time: Spend It Wisely

Have you ever heard the expression, “You have to spend money to make money”? Well, the same is true with time. You have to spend time to make time. In other words, if you spend a little bit of time every day to get yourself organized by making a “to-do” list with priorities and goals, you will actually save yourself time throughout the day. And, if you spend time focusing on each task as you do it, you will avoid mistakes… and the time it takes to fix those mistakes! By planning ahead, you give yourself the BIG PICTURE of what your day looks like. You can make decisions about what actually needs to get done and what can wait.

We live such complicated, hectic lives. Our “to-do” lists seem to get longer every day. And, with all these commitments and obligations comes an increased level of STRESS! Understanding the principles of time management will help you simplify your busy life. You can get a handle on all the tasks you want to do and all the tasks you have to do throughout the day. You’ll be left feeling calmer and less stressed at the end of the day! By planning a bit, eliminating time wasters, and giving your full attention to the task at hand, you with find more time in your day to do the things that are important to you!

The Problem with Procrastination

Procrastination is when people put things off-especially things they don’t like to do. Many people procrastinate until the very last minute and then end up with a huge job on their hands. For example, have you ever put off doing required paperwork and ended up having a huge pile to finish? Or, have you ever waited to wash dishes until there were no more clean dishes at all? There is a saying: Never put off until tomorrow what you can do today. This is good advice, since procrastination is a real time waster-and a bad habit. Here are some ways that people procrastinate:

1. Too Much Planning, Not Enough Action!

Example: Susan spends so much time cutting out recipes and planning what she wants to cook that she never has time to cook. She ends up going out to eat instead-even though she can’t really afford it.

Solution: Susan could set a time limit for her menu planning. She could schedule an hour every weekend to look through recipes and plan meals for the week. Then, she should buy the ingredients so that she has no excuse not to cook.

2. Avoiding Boring Tasks.

Example: Tom finds it really boring to fold his client’s laundry. He tends to put off the job, leaving the laundry in a heap until it gets wrinkled. Family members have started to complain, so now his supervisor is unhappy with him-all because of some laundry!

Solution: Tom could alternate boring tasks with ones that are more interesting. The interesting tasks can be like a “reward” for completing the boring ones.

3. Putting Off the Unpleasant.

Example: Lydia finds it hard to get along with one of her clients, an elderly woman named Mrs. Jones. She puts off taking care of Mrs. Jones until late in the day. But by then, both Lydia and her client are tired. This means that it takes longer than it should to finish Mrs. Jones’ personal care and the client is even grumpier than usual.

Solution: Lydia could ask Mrs. Jones what time of day she would like her personal care-and then do it at that time. This might make Mrs. Jones easier to get along with. Or, Lydia can plan to do Mrs. Jones’ care first thing in the morning. This way, Lydia’s least favorite task is finished early and she doesn’t have to worry about it all day.

4. Unrealistic Deadlines.

Example: Bill tends to work slowly every morning, taking several breaks and taking time out to talk to coworkers. After lunch, when Bill feels that time is running out, he speeds up, rushing through his work to get it all done by the end of the day.

Solution: Bill can set up “mini” deadlines for himself. He can divide his work into fourths and tell himself that he needs to finish one fourth by 10:00, another fourth by 12:00 and so on. Until this new way of working becomes a habit, Bill could ask his supervisor or a coworker to check if he’s meeting his mini deadlines.

Improving the productivity of your employees isn’t always an easy thing to do if you don’t have the right tools or system. One way to do this is to incorporate time management activities into their daily routine. These activities can be monitored to see how much they are adding to the productivity of the employee or not. In the following article, the author shares 2 time management activities that can be used with employees. Read on for more.

One of the best ways to teach your office staff on how function their job properly and balance many quantities of work is using a time management activity. It can also bring the team together such as planning a group activity that will raise the team’s morale.

The reason is twofold, with one part of the activity will serve to teach your workers good tips for managing their work while the other part will tell people on how to work together while getting their work done. This activity can be just about anything that your employees need in order to learn to help each other as a team and learn to use their time more effectively.

Some offices report giving short projects that require planning, timing and intricate work patterns. Groups of employees are given such short projects to complete in a short amount of time. Therefore, time management skills has to come into play as the team must estimate time requirements, divide responsibilities, establish priorities and manage deadlines.

There is an activity that always works

Another tip for your staff is to plan a difficult assignment and rewards them with a prize or some time off from work. The assignment can not be something that can be done within a restricted timeframe – the objective is to help your staff establish their time management techniques through this activity over a period of several days. Allow your employees to establish deadlines and priorities themselves, and teach them only when they really needed it.

This is to be sure that your workers create items in their offices lives that will aid them in their time management skills that will change over time. Give them small jobs to do along with their work projects that will assist them in combining time management tricks and time management activities both in their office and in their daily lives. An employee that uses good time management ideas at home also uses it in the office, too.

There are several tips that you can use. One of the effective ways to find tips for an activity is to look on websites relating to time management or check out a book from your local library. Managing your time is critical and having workers that recognize the importance of time is vital to the success of your business. Another idea for such an activity is to source out short work-related projects that are non-critical but important and allow your team to learn through them.

Enhancing your business productivity is simply very easy in using various time management activity.

Here is part 2 on effective time management with Napolean Hill and Ivy Lee. This rounds out their approach to time management. This is from the early 20th century, and is not some new-fangled technique. I guess time remains the same as we move on (in our perception that is), so the strategies are really the same no matter what year it is (until we can step outside of our perception of time… I guess that is how the masters manage their time… They step outside of it…) But for everyone else, we need the training wheels. So here is the rest of the article.

The Simple Time Management Method

This simple idea encapsulates all of the ideas within entire books and courses. Often these materials while presenting good distinctions and enhancements that are of value – tend to obscure the basic idea that Lee presented. The person studying the concepts get caught up with quadrants, matrix’s, and complicated prioritizing schemes – they miss the basics, the part that makes the whole thing of value to start with.

If you are new to time management or have a system that has overwhelmed you drop back to the basics and begin to draw your own distinctions, create your own rules.

Lee gave Schwab a blank sheet of paper and told him..

List the six most important things you have to do tomorrow.

number them in order of importance

Take the paper out tomorrow morning – start with 1 and stay with it until completed

Only then go to 2 and repeat until the end of day. If you don’t finish you probably wouldn’t have finished anyway – when you realize this you know when to say no to a new task or give it to someone else.

So there is your simple time management seminar that Schwab voluntarily paid what would be the equivalent of $250,000 for today. In essence it incorporates all the items that you can read entire chapters of time management books to understand. You will figure out the parts about avoiding interruptions and all the minutia.

If you are one of the people with more to do than you can accomplish you really need to read Napoleon Hill and take his messages to heart whether it be on time management or another topic. It is not some huge mass of rules and materials to memorize rather it is a belief system that harnesses your subconscious mind and causes you to reach out to others and form what Hill calls a “Master Mind.” The Master Mind is a team working together for a common purpose. Maybe it’s you and your spouse or a best friend to begin, maybe its a group at work. Each of you with six things to do tomorrow. Each of you helping the other see the important things – which on some days might be just to leave it and go refresh so you can be more effective when you come back to it.

That’s it for Google search result 227,000,001 Napoleon Hill and Ivy Lee’s time management tools; and make no mistake time management is one of the biggest success principles of all time.

This is a good multi-part article on time management from the viewpoint of Napoleon Hill and Ivy Lee. In the article, you can get an idea of what time management systems are, and how to ease into time management. Most people jump in with both feet before they get a chance to really acclimate themselves to the new system. Read on to this great advice on time management and how to incorporate a system that will work for you. Part to is coming up in a later post.

Time management has become a huge business these days. Many companies offer great time management tools to manage your day and to make you more productive. Google returns 227,000,000 pages in response to a query on the subject of time management; now with this article: Google search result 227,000,001 and even more by the time you read it. In the early part of the last Century Ivy Lee gave Charles Schwab one of the most effective time management tips of all time.

Time Management Systems

Whole books, seminars and courses have been made on time management – you can easily spend thousands of dollars on this topic trying to get the latest edge to learn the latest time management skills. I usually get a headache and my eyes glaze over as I dig into these things.

Much of this information and these time management systems are good but as Solomon said, in Ecclesiastes, about things of the world: “everything is meaningless… they are vanity and vexation of the spirit.” This is truly what time management systems can become. Our society is obsessed with the idea of wringing out the last ounce of time – to the point of it being counter-productive. Trying to wring productivity out of your time is an important aspiration, time management is one of the keys to success, and time is the one commodity in your life that you cannot add to, you can only make it’s use more efficient.

Many people who seek to maximize their time get planners, or electronic devices with planners built in and often – they wind up feeling like a slave to the systems they buy – these systems causing more stress instead of being the stress reliever they are intended to be. They wind up trying to schedule too much or perhaps an element of procrastination has crept in and items keep moving from one date to the next and stacking up. The planner becomes like an old friend they have made promises too and yet have not fulfilled them. After a while they begin to avoid the planner and it winds up in the drawer and they come back to a simple appointment calender.

Ease Into Time Management

My advice is to ease into time management. There are great dividends to be earned with your time management activities but putting one of the systems on. But putting the whole uniform on all at once and keeping the buttons polished when you are used to running free and naked (in a time sense) is likely to lead to your rebellion and casting it off within a few months.

Start off easily: Napoleon Hill writes of Ivy Lee, who is considered the father of modern public relations, Lee was doing some work for Charles Schwab the head of Bethlehem Steel. Schwab told Lee that the biggest problem he had was making his managers more effective – helping them better utilize their time. Lee handed Schwab a blank sheet of paper and told him that with in a few minutes he could give him the solution. Schwab agreed to try the system out for a few weeks and then send Lee a check for what he thought the idea was worth.

Lee advised Schwab to have his managers, at the end of the day, to list their top six priorities for tomorrow. Then they should number 1 to 6 according to how important that task was. On the next day take the tasks in the priority order, not proceeding until a task was completed. In a couple of weeks Schwab sent Lee a check for $25,000 as the value of the idea – and this was in the 1920’s.

This is an average article about time management for students. This article gives you some tips, but you could have more tips like focusing on priority management… That is where you are going to save your time. Organizational management is where you are going to get more time as well. The more organized you are, the less time you spend on looking for stuff. It is very important to know more than just how to do things faster and more efficiently. At any result, take a read of the article and determine if you can use any of these strategies.

In the school we learn many things: languages, mathematics, biology, chemistry; the next step after school is college, and the load of homework and knowledge just increases exponentially. If we don’t have good strategies to effectively manage our time, in no time we will run out of time and will be inside a cycle of stress and anxiety.

The bad thing about the current education format in many parts of the World, is that we as students, don’t get education on how to properly manage our time. And what is worse, we are getting bombarded with assignments and projects, so we never get the time to reflect about this issue.

If you are a student and you are reading this article, you are very steps ahead the majority of students around the World. At least I take for granted that you know there are some effective ways to manage your time during this phase in life. Most people just continue with useless time management tactics and they carry on the ignorance to their adult life, living a life of stress and deadlines.

Three of the basic time management strategies every student must integrate in their life are: planning, prioritizing and focusing.

Planning is the first step. You can start very basic with just a notebook and a pen. At the very start of your day, jot down your to do list for the day. If you are making big task, break it down in steps and put some of these smaller steps as part of your day.

The second step is to prioritize. When you are coupling time management and studying, you’ll have to know which ones are the tasks that are truly important and put them first on the list. Experts recommend doing the task that is more time consuming and boring first. This way you’ll be mentally freer the rest of the day!

Finally, you’ll need to focus. During teenage years this can be pretty hard. Text messages, IM, calls, they all contribute to losing focus. However when the time comes to do what we have to do, focusing will have to be exercised. Turn down all elements that distract you and get to the task at hand!

A proper time management is needed to allocate time for your work, family and online study. You should plan your own schedule that allows you to stand focus on your work and family while getting your assignment done. …
