It is no secret that business managers are extremely busy. Often, managers are left feeling overworked and overwhelmed, and that can be after only just the first day of the week. As a manager, it is important to find ways to simplify the management of your office, yet continue to remain in-the-know. In doing so, you will not feel that you must spend your day micro-managing every detail of the office and can go about business without worrying about whether the office will run or not.

For example, if you find that you are spending much of your time chasing down late employees, or tracking employee breaks, invest in an employee time clock. This way, you have hard data to refer to and you are not taking time out of your schedule to ensure it is collected. Look for other ways to free up your time.

Begin with some “spring-cleaning” at the office. Consider the time at your office fitting into the three categories of thoughts, conversations and actions. These are the areas that your work is made up of. Being that you will be unable to do away with interruptions throughout your workday, you will need to make a conscious decision as to how much time you will allow yourself to spend on each type of interruption. Decide how much each category contributes to your overall success and budget time accordingly.

After this step, attempt to make your average day more productive. Utilize the following tips to become more in control of your own time. Track all of your thoughts, conversations and actions by carrying around a schedule for one week’s time. This way you will be able to see where your time is going on paper.

Evaluate the amount of time that is directly spent on attaining results and how much of your time has been wasted on things which are nonproductive to the business. From here, assess your data. Assign a time in your schedule for any conversation or activity that affects your success.

Appointment books work much better than “To-Do” lists. Allow regular time for high-priority actions, thoughts and conversations by scheduling them in, even if this means that you are scheduling time with yourself.

Plan time to attend to interruptions. As a manager, there is just no way to avoid interruptions. For example, this time could be called “office hours”. This is a time where people know they can come to you. Plan your time daily. Make a ritual of doing so in the first thirty minutes of each day.

Success can be determined by how well you have achieved your goals.  Since we all live in a physical world determined by space and time, we all realize that the time to create our goals and dreams is constricted by time.  We all have the same 24 hours in a day….  So what makes some of us more successful than others?  A big portion is our use of time.  Read on for how to manage your time better.

We are all so busy these days that it seems we are doing so many things and I for one realize that I’m not performing as well as I would like. Do you feel the same?

There are so many responsibilities on a day to day basis that I often wonder if I’m going to be able to accomplish all the tasks I have in front of me. Those feelings of overwhelm have become a familiar friend. With all the stress in my life I had to find a new way of working. A new plan that would help me not only stay on task but also be able to accomplish them in a timely manner.

The solution: a good time management system. Let’s face it there are tons of different time management systems out there. Some work for a while and some don’t ever work. If I’m going to use a time management system then I have to use one that I know will work for me.

The first step was to sit down and come up with a plan that would work for me on a day to day basis, but could be flexible with my busy life.

Here are the steps that I followed to put my plan in place:

  1. Target: I first had to come up with a target regarding the tasks that needed to be completed and how much time I had in order to get them done. Some jobs are ongoing but other jobs have a completion date.
  2. Planning: This part is very important because I had to decide how much time each job was going to take, when it needed to be completed, or if it was an ongoing job so I would schedule time to work on the task.
  3. Prioritize: Another important part in figuring out my time management plan. Some of the tasks I perform are urgent or have a completion that has to be met. I know this is going to be an ongoing challenge as new tasks come up but if I keep my time management plan handy I can make changes as I go along.
  4. Schedule: One of the benefits of having an effective time management plan is being able to schedule my time. One thing I started doing was to put in not only tasks for my job but also events that occur in my personal life. For instance, I now have a time slotted for when I go to the gym and when I have lunch or dinner with certain friends.

It turned out that putting together a time management plan wasn’t all that difficult once I sat down and took a look at all the task and events I have in my life. Everything is now in one place on a calendar that I put together on my computer. It can be changed as I go along and I can print it out to take with me so I have it in case I need to add something to the plan.

One way to lessen this high level of health jeopardizing stress is to take charge of your work load and your life to put things in perspective. It is OK to still do them, just be sure you monitor how much time you spend. 5. Break tasks up into smaller steps. Start small and build yourself and your time management skills up in a positive way. Every step you accomplish is a reason for celebration, and by having parts of a larger task done ahead of time you will find the last minute rush to completion is much easier and less stressful.

Balancing friends, family, schoolwork, and a part-time isn’t easy. This is what most college students face when they attend college. If you follow these tips, you will be able to successfully balance your life.

Set goals.
Set academic goals, but be realistic. Not many people get straight a’s their first semester of college. Do you have extracurricular goals? What about personal goals? If you set goals, you have a greater chance of following through with them. To ensure you follow through with your goals, reward yourself. If you accomplish a goal, treat yourself to something like an extra cookie at lunch or a movie at the local theater.

Prioritize.
This is the most important tip. Decide which of your tasks are the most important. This is where “learn to say no” comes to play. Do not prioritize friends over school and parties over homework. When it comes to homework, always work on the assignment due the soonest. Use the ABCD prioritization system. A is most important. B is a must do, but isn’t as important as A. C is a task that has no consequences if it doesn’t get done. D is a task you will delegate or outsource. E stands for eliminate.

Keep a calendar.
A calendar is essential to college. If you have any hope of going to class on time, completing your homework, and participating in extracurricular activities, you need some way to keep dates and times organized.

Do NOT procrastinate.
There are three simple steps to overcoming procrastination. Recognize when it’s occurring, ask why it’s happening, and move on. There are four procrastination styles: self-doubt, guilt, discomfort, and habitual. Self-doubt procrastination occurs when people fear failure. People who use this style feel that there are extremely high standards and don’t have the confidence to try meeting them. Guilt driven procrastination is a fallacious style. People who employ its use feel guilty and won’t complete a task so they can avoid the guilty feeling a second time around, but they then feel guilt for not completing the task. Discomfort driven procrastination works the same way guilt driven procrastination does. They avoid a task when they’re uncomfortable, but then their discomfort grows because the task doesn’t go away. The last style is habitual procrastination. These people have procrastinated for so long that it has become second nature. Everyone procrastinates, but don’t allow it to get the best of you.

Grab extra study time.
Use your time wisely. Whenever you wait for a friend or outside of a classroom, take the time to study or work on a project. This downtime is a great chance to catch up on class work you’re behind in. Finish small tasks, so you have extra free time later.

Organize.
Don’t lose important lecture papers in the abyss of your backpack. Have a folder or binder for each class and actually use it. Keep your notes organized to make studying easier.

Because we cannot change time, we have to live with what we’re given. Use the afore-mentioned tips to make good use of the time you do have.

While there are many common aspects when learning time management skills most people do not take into account their personality type when deciding on their methods. Who you are and how you deal with your problems is essential in planning for good time management so here are a few common types of personalities, how they waste time and how they can manage time better.

Busy

Busy types always feel there is no time to do anything because they are so busy rushing around fixing problems and working at what they think is important. The problem with anyone who thinks they are too busy is that they probably make themselves busier than they need to be. This is often caused by poor priority planning spending too much time on small inconsequential problems they could delegate or even leave to a less busy time. They also tend to rush from crisis to crisis leaving piles of tasks behind them not done creating more problems in the long run which is a planning problem. To counter this, a busy personality needs to realize while they are a doer they need to set their priorities right and direct their energies to the right problems at the right times. By doing this a busy personality can be very productive.

Talkative

Some people just love to talk and socialize and while this can lead to great relationships and people with this trait often make good sales people the tendency to get side tracked by chatting cuts into their time; often this also leads to this personality type blaming their work more then themselves for their workload. People with great social skills can be a real asset but to overcome their time wasting problems you may think that isolating them from others would help; this in fact makes this worse! A social person needs to be social to feel good and be productive but must also learn that moderation is the key, having a beeper to remind them of the time every now and then can spur them on if they get too caught up and having a space that is isolated to work on important things is necessary for them to avoid interruptions which can draw out their natural instincts.

Meticulous

A meticulous person is very precise in all that they do making sure every task they finish is perfect and in order and completely without fault. The problem is that they spend too much time on each task to get them all done! While the meticulous person might have a good idea of priorities they do not have a good sense of time allocation. While it can be hard to get this personality type to learn a new skillset they can learn to divide their time better. Instead of following one project through until the end they should set a certain amount of time in a day and then change to another project no matter if they are finished or not. While this does not seem to finish things any faster it does allow freshness every time you swap projects that is more inventive and efficient which means when you come back to a half finished project the second half can be a breeze with a fresh look instead of being bogged down in one for a whole day!

If you see some of your own personality in these archetypes you may just be spending your time incorrectly but learning time management skills that fall in line with your personality and your strengths can be more rewarding and effective than a cookie cutter solution.

While this article title says it all, one cant help but realize that in a way,l saving time is making money if the time saved is put to making money.  This is an approach that may seem a bit odd at first but when you reallly sit down to think about it, it’s true if time is money (there is a neat equation that ends up being the less you know the more you make) which in a metaphysical sense, could mean when we get out of our own way, we have the freedom to step outside of our little box and make more money, and be happier as well.  But that is the metaphysical version.  Read the article for the more practical reasons.


If you want to make more money, you need to manage your time very carefully and avoid anything which distracts you and takes you away from the primary focus. It is important to develop a clear methodology. Here are some suggestions.

Avoid the shiny objects syndrome. Many people who want to make money online get distracted with all the ads they see for the next big deal which promises instant wealth with no work, etc. etc. Avoid trying a lot of new programs since they are very distracting.

Choose a plan and stick with it. If you have decided that you want to promote affiliate products through article marketing, then develop a detailed plan and stick with it. To make money online does take work and there is no avoiding it.

Develop a daily set of plans and goals. Plan out what you need to accomplish that day. For example it might be to create and submit five articles on a particular topic. Create a checklist each day and then do whatever you can to accomplish that.

If you weren’t able to complete the goals you set out for the day, try to figure out why. Then revise your plans as necessary.

Check emails on a set schedule. Emails are very distracting. You may be working on an article and then…BLAM….you get an email from someone. You may stop to read it and respond to it. The next thing you realize is that it’s an hour later and you’ve totally lost your train of thought!

It is better to set specific times to review and respond to your emails. That way you can be focused on the things you need to get done. Try it. You’ll be amazed how much more efficient you can get.

Time Management Techniques to Prioritize Your Tasks So You Can Get More Things Done

As the world moves faster and faster, our need to keep up becomes more apparent.  In this case, our ability to keep up will depend on our ability, and the system we use to get more things done in the same amount of time.  Let’s face it, the one thing we can’t have more of is time.  We all get the same amount of time.  The difference between those of us who are very successful and those of us who aren’t is in what we do with that time.  Thus the nature and popularity of time management.  In this article, the author discusses some good techniques to get a better handle on your time so you can be much more efficient.

There are a lot of people who stay unsuccessful or have alternating experiences with success and failure, simply because they do not know how to apply the right time management techniques. Here are four techniques you can use to manage your time by prioritizing your tasks:

1. ABC analysis

With ABC analysis, what you need to do is simply categorize the urgency or importance of your tasks. For example: A for your most important and urgent task, B for your important but not urgent tasks, and C for not important tasks (which you can remove from your to-do-lists)

2. Pareto analysis (20/80 rule)

I’m sure you’ve heard this before.

You only wear 20% of all your clothes, and earn the most from 20% of your customers.

In the latter case, to be able to earn big profits, all you do is focusing on the 20%.

In time management, you can do 80% of your tasks with 20% of your time. Therefore, prioritize your tasks and focus 20% of your time on those that are important the most.

3. POSEC (Prioritize by Organizing, Streamlining, Economizing and Contributing)

You can do the following with this technique:

Prioritize your time and set goals in your life.
Organize the things you should accomplish so you can succeed.
Streamline or make more efficient of the things you must do, even though you don’t like it at all.
Economize or cut down on the things you should or like to do, but not really urgent.
Contribute by doing the other things that make a difference.

4. The Eisenhower Method

The way how to do this is basically the same as the ABC analysis. The Eisenhower method also looks like Kiyosaki’s Cashflow Quadrants, and it is not complicated.

What you need to do is categorize your tasks as important/unimportant and urgent/not urgent and put in according quadrants. Tasks in unimportant/not urgent quadrant are eliminated, tasks in important/urgent quadrant are done right away, while tasks in unimportant/urgent are delegated and tasks in important/not urgent get an end date and are done personally (set the date and spend quality time).

b. After you complete this activity, record the amount of time you spent under each category. This way you can easily monitor your progress and accomplishments in one day.

c. Try to stick to the plan as much as possible.

d. Avoid over doing it by stuffing to much work in one day.

If you haven’t already noticed, sometimes it just seems like there isn’t enough time in the day to accomplish everything you need to do. Why does it feel like no matter how hard you try, time seems to slip away?

Whether you want to or not, mastering time management is a task that will be forced upon you in order for you to keep track and keep up with all the responsibilities and activities of college life. By following these 4 critical steps, you’ll be able to make time work for you and not against you.

Let’s start with figuring out how many hours a day can truly be classified as “free” time. Let’s break it down.

There are 24 hours in a day X 7 days a week = 168 hours total a week.

1. Take Charge

Realizing you only have 10 hours of free time available every day, a take charge attitude is imperative in making this allotted time work to your advantage. You’ve got to take the initiative in making decisions rather than waiting for others or circumstances to dictate your steps. Being proactive instead of reactive is imperative.

Taking the reactive approach will not allow you to utilize your time efficiently. Don’t choose to study “when your classmates are studying” instead, look at your own schedule and figure out the free time you have in between whatever other responsibilities you have for the day, making every minute productive.

2. Be Organized

Being organized is the foundational aspect of being proactive. How can you make decisions if you are unsure of what lies ahead? If you haven’t figured out a system to use, such as a planner, then get one. If you own a Mac, the iCal is a tool you can use to organize your life. Make sure you include everything, such as:

Test dates from your syllabus
Project deadlines
Last day to drop classes
School holidays
Professor office hours
Club and organization meetings and events
Doctor’s appointments
Football/Basketball games
Final exam/midterm dates and times
Any other event or task that you need to be aware of

Seeing everything down on paper/computer screen drastically reduces anxiety as well as feeling overwhelmed by too much to do.

3. Plan Each Day

When you get up in the morning, go to your planner and plan your day from beginning to end. You can even start by going over things in your head when you go to bed the night before. If anything important comes up, be sure to write it down in your planner.

4. Prioritize

Make sure when you look at the things that need to be accomplished for the day to prioritize what’s truly important. Finishing a group project is going to take top priority over organizing a basketball game with your friends. Rank your tasks by their level of importance and complete those first then continue down the list until the rest are completed.

I have a friend who just recently graduated from a nursing program.  I watch her during her time that she was in school and she didn’t have a lot of free time.  The good thing was on her part is that she was able to go to school full time.  She didn’t have to juggle work and kids and school all at the same time.  Even then however, she still required some time management to be able to study so she could pass her tests.  This article talks about the kinds of time management skills that would benefit nursing students.  Part of the skillset does require organization.  Read on for the rest of the skills that are required, and tips that would help nursing students have an easier time with their studies.
