Here is an article on Blackberry time management called: Really Use Your Blackberry to Manage Your Life and Business

You know the scene.  Blackberry users are a loose club.  Own a Blackberry – you’re in.  When we see each other we compare notes on the best programs to add.  We all are looking for ways to make our lives faster and easier to manage.

Personally, I need to be flexible.  One moment I at my desk working on an email.  Two minutes later I’m sending a reply but now I’m down the hall or even heading for the car.  Blackberry to the rescue.

Now on my third blackberry over four years, I’ve had the chance to try lots of programs.  This is the list of the best ones that work for me.

Wall Street Journal reader for Blackberry.  Use it several times a day.  Very quick to scan headlines.  Then click for summary and click again to get the full article.  Did I say this is free!  So far they are not charging for blackberry users.  The app will send articles to anyone in your phone book, Facebook, or quick link to your email.  Also has custom search and your portfolio is automatically updated.

HP 12C Financial Calculator.  This one will cost $13.  Works perfect.  I took the basic calculator off my phone.  You can chose RPN or algebraic.  Check it out at lygea.com

Project Manager – Task List.  And fully searchable free form database.   Rexwireless offers a bunch of software solutions.  I chose two that fit my needs for flexible and detailed task and project management and another to handle all of the databases and notes I want to carry with me.  (I replaced a palmtop computer with the blackberry).  ToDoMatrix and IdeaMatrix work very well.  Most people that use them claim they are the best applications available.  They integrate well with the rest of the BB apps.  All of the data is automatically and instantly synced with the web-based versions.  So you can work on the phone or on the web.  Customer service has been incredible when needed.  They also offer enterprise level versions where the whole company can share data.  Best application on my BB, I live in these applications.  Cost is $60 each or both for $100.

Google Mobile products.  Google has several great tools.  I use some but not all.  GoogleMaps goes right on top.  Love the live traffic updates and quick searching for a place I need by just scrolling to the general area on the map and searching.  GoogleSync is critical for me to automatically back up my calendar and addressbook.  You will need a Google account, then you sync with an online calendar and addressbook.  The calendar can then be shared with staff.  Watch who takes priority with the gmail/sync.  I recommend you back up the BB databases using the desktop and cable also.  Sync works well, but is confusing until you get the preferences right.

Google also has a gmail client for the blackberry.  I use this for email sometimes.  Mostly to get email that I’ve already removed from the BB.  (I frequently delete the BB email to clear memory.)  But with gmail I can find anything for years back.

Beyond411  Quick location based and every other type of search too.  I use this as my first line of search.  Don’t have to open a browser to start searching.  Just quick type and click.  It is location based so it is great for finding a place you need close by.  It gives maps, directions, addresses and phone numbers.  Just click on the phone number and you’re making table reservations!  It also does general web searches, white pages, and 1000 more special searches so you only get the type of responses you want.  It’s free and used a lot.  Faster than calling 411 and let me it say it again,  FREE. You can find it at thebogles.com.

eOffice.  Recently paid the money so I could write Microsoft Word docs and Excel spreadsheets.  $30.00 Dynoplex offers this.  It is difficult to use though.  Email or Tweet me for an update on how I resolve issues in being fully mobile with office tools.

What are your favorite apps?  Just let me know.

An Article on Time Management for Teachers – ‘Time Management Techniques For New Teachers on How to Balance Teaching and Managing a Classroom’

We all know of teachers who manage to teach a lot in every single lesson – or at least every week.

And many of these teachers don’t teach quiet cooperative classrooms without distractions and interruptions.

Many of these teachers have small children, family members and pets to take care of. Some of these teachers even have other part time or full time jobs. Yet they still manage to succeed as professional teachers.

So how do they do it?

Aside from learning how and when to structure your lesson planning time, you also need a teaching plan that will help you stick to your focus. It’s not always easy to balance your time under very tight time and curriculum constraints, I know.

But training yourself is a big part of becoming a successful and confident teacher.

Here’s a tip to help get you started:

Bring your lessons to life by keeping a lesson planning notebook. Avoid those sticky notes! This can of course, be either a looseleaf notebook or a spiral notebook that you keep notes in about a particular class. You can make notes about student performance during an activity, whether it was hard and what was hard about it.

You can also write down how students behaved and exactly what they were doing. When you open your textbook and planning material, you’ll have a better idea of what your students are capable of doing at the given moment and you’ll be able to bring your lesson to life!

So plan to get some teaching done this week!

An Article for Time management for College Students:

Balancing friends, family, schoolwork, and a part-time isn’t easy. This is what most college students face when they attend college. If you follow these tips, you will be able to successfully balance your life.

Set goals.
Set academic goals, but be realistic. Not many people get straight a’s their first semester of college. Do you have extracurricular goals? What about personal goals? If you set goals, you have a greater chance of following through with them. To ensure you follow through with your goals, reward yourself. If you accomplish a goal, treat yourself to something like an extra cookie at lunch or a movie at the local theater.

Prioritize.
This is the most important tip. Decide which of your tasks are the most important. This is where “learn to say no” comes to play. Do not prioritize friends over school and parties over homework. When it comes to homework, always work on the assignment due the soonest. Use the ABCD prioritization system. A is most important. B is a must do, but isn’t as important as A. C is a task that has no consequences if it doesn’t get done. D is a task you will delegate or outsource. E stands for eliminate.

Keep a calendar.
A calendar is essential to college. If you have any hope of going to class on time, completing your homework, and participating in extracurricular activities, you need some way to keep dates and times organized.

Do NOT procrastinate.
There are three simple steps to overcoming procrastination. Recognize when it’s occurring, ask why it’s happening, and move on. There are four procrastination styles: self-doubt, guilt, discomfort, and habitual. Self-doubt procrastination occurs when people fear failure. People who use this style feel that there are extremely high standards and don’t have the confidence to try meeting them. Guilt driven procrastination is a fallacious style. People who employ its use feel guilty and won’t complete a task so they can avoid the guilty feeling a second time around, but they then feel guilt for not completing the task. Discomfort driven procrastination works the same way guilt driven procrastination does. They avoid a task when they’re uncomfortable, but then their discomfort grows because the task doesn’t go away. The last style is habitual procrastination. These people have procrastinated for so long that it has become second nature. Everyone procrastinates, but don’t allow it to get the best of you.

Grab extra study time.
Use your time wisely. Whenever you wait for a friend or outside of a classroom, take the time to study or work on a project. This downtime is a great chance to catch up on class work you’re behind in. Finish small tasks, so you have extra free time later.

Organize.
Don’t lose important lecture papers in the abyss of your backpack. Have a folder or binder for each class and actually use it. Keep your notes organized to make studying easier.

Because we cannot change time, we have to live with what we’re given. Use the afore-mentioned tips to make good use of the time you do have.

Here is an article on time management systems:

“Time management is intended to save time, not waste time.”

Is your time management system failing?

Does it seem to take more effort than it is worth?

Does it regularly breakdown?

If your system is failing, then it’s time to re-evaluate.

First we need to assess why it’s not working:

Is your time management system is too complex? – This is actually the most common problem that causes systems to fail. Is it cumbersome or time-consuming? Do you use multiple tools or require a plan just to plan? If it takes more time to organize than it does to do the work then it is too complex.

Is it redundant? – Do you have multiple lists? Do you use more than one calendar? Are you duplicating work? Use one central planning tool, list and calendar.

Is it portable? – Where do you keep your time management system? Can you take it with you and have access to it at all times? You need to be able to capture ideas and retrieve information in real-time or your system fails.

Does it match your personality or work patterns? – If you are tech savvy, then en electronic organizing system is most efficient. If you are more comfortable with traditional pen and paper then carry your notebook and don’t force yourself to struggle with a PDA. The best time management system is the one that works for you!

Tips to keep in mind:

  • The simpler the better – Choose the simplest, most direct method to get the job done.
  • Keep it centralized – Whatever your system, keep it in one place.
  • Make it accessible – Make sure that you can get to your information and capture thoughts and tasks easily in real-time.
  • Choose your tools carefully – Select the tools that accomplish what you need without additional bells and whistles that will distract you.
  • You are the most important consideration – Your system must suit you, your personality, your work style and your way of thinking or processing information.

An effective time management system should save you time and effort. It should help you make the most efficient use of your time. It should not be a struggle to use. It should feel comfortable. Maybe not initially, but after using it for a bit, if it’s still uncomfortable – re-assess, tweak it or ditch it and start over.

Here is an article called,  – Learning Time Management Skills For Your Personality

While there are many common aspects when learning time management skills most people do not take into account their personality type when deciding on their methods. Who you are and how you deal with your problems is essential in planning for good time management so here are a few common types of personalities, how they waste time and how they can manage time better.

Busy

Busy types always feel there is no time to do anything because they are so busy rushing around fixing problems and working at what they think is important. The problem with anyone who thinks they are too busy is that they probably make themselves busier than they need to be. This is often caused by poor priority planning spending too much time on small inconsequential problems they could delegate or even leave to a less busy time. They also tend to rush from crisis to crisis leaving piles of tasks behind them not done creating more problems in the long run which is a planning problem. To counter this, a busy personality needs to realize while they are a doer they need to set their priorities right and direct their energies to the right problems at the right times. By doing this a busy personality can be very productive.

Talkative

Some people just love to talk and socialize and while this can lead to great relationships and people with this trait often make good sales people the tendency to get side tracked by chatting cuts into their time; often this also leads to this personality type blaming their work more then themselves for their workload. People with great social skills can be a real asset but to overcome their time wasting problems you may think that isolating them from others would help; this in fact makes this worse! A social person needs to be social to feel good and be productive but must also learn that moderation is the key, having a beeper to remind them of the time every now and then can spur them on if they get too caught up and having a space that is isolated to work on important things is necessary for them to avoid interruptions which can draw out their natural instincts.

Meticulous

A meticulous person is very precise in all that they do making sure every task they finish is perfect and in order and completely without fault. The problem is that they spend too much time on each task to get them all done! While the meticulous person might have a good idea of priorities they do not have a good sense of time allocation. While it can be hard to get this personality type to learn a new skillset they can learn to divide their time better. Instead of following one project through until the end they should set a certain amount of time in a day and then change to another project no matter if they are finished or not. While this does not seem to finish things any faster it does allow freshness every time you swap projects that is more inventive and efficient which means when you come back to a half finished project the second half can be a breeze with a fresh look instead of being bogged down in one for a whole day!

If you see some of your own personality in these archetypes you may just be spending your time incorrectly but learning time management skills that fall in line with your personality and your strengths can be more rewarding and effective than a cookie cutter solution.

Web Based Task Management Software

Task management software can certainly make taking care of tasks something that is easy to maintain, thus making projects easier to complete and take less time.  Task management software can be computer based or web based.  This article talks about how web based task management software can give advantages to your business.

I found some videos for you on Task Management Software

Here is a overview of how the To Do List app works. Learn More: simplelifetool.com

Why JobTraQ Task Management Software?

JobTraQ® Task Management Software is a flexible and powerful team management software and workflow software solution empowering best practices for human-to-human (H2H) interactions through “Task Enablement”. JobTraQ® Task Management Software enables …

When a company performs projects, task management is crucial to keeping its projects on schedule and ensuring that enough time is given to each task to ensure a project’s quality. Although defect tracking, task tracking, issue tracking, etc., are often discussed as disciplines that commence with the implementation of an official tracking system, the reality is that all project companies officially tracking defects, tasks and issues that are crucial to their projects. But how well they track them is another matter. In many cases, companies begin by using amateur tracking strategies that work well in the beginning. But as they grow and take on larger projects, they often try to make their original tracking methods work in a situation that demands a form of tracking that offers, at the very least, greater task organization and delegation abilities, accommodates a larger number of project participants and allows task resolution status to be viewed in real time.

Concerning the question of who uses web based task management software, the quickest answer would be: companies that handle large projects and that typically work on more than one project at once. However, while large companies that attempt their own task tracking usually show a greater need for web based task management software than smaller companies, task management software is designed for large and small companies alike that work in any area where tracking tasks by computer is a beneficial endeavor. As to the advantages of web based task management software, it’s best to begin by comparing it to its opposite: onsite task management software, which functions like an intranet, meaning that tracking software and hardware is located at a company’s facility.

When comparing web based tracking to onsite tracking, the most obvious difference is price, with web based tracking costing significantly less. To implement onsite tracking, you’ll have to incur the following expenses: hardware costs, software costs, system maintenance fees and system maintenance upgrades. But with web based tracking these expenses are eliminated; all you pay is a monthly fee that’s based on the number of users for your tracking system and the type of tracking options you need. In terms of system users, packages can be found that accommodate as few as five users, and as many as 2,500. In terms of tracking options, most tracking providers perform an analysis of a company’s unique tracking needs and business process to create a tracking system that fits them perfectly.

In addition to its cost effectiveness, web based task management software also offers extreme flexibility in terms of tracking options and remote system access. Some tracking providers offer their services on a pay as you go basis, which allows for the easy adding and deleting of tracking options on a short term basis. With onsite tracking systems, your always stuck with your original tracking options; you can add new options, but you can’t delete old ones that you no longer need. Remote system access refers to system users’ ability to access a web based tracking system from Internet terminals worldwide, which is ideal for companies that conduct or plan on conducting business on a national or global level, as well as for companies that have traveling employees, two or more locations that work on the same projects or employees that work from home.

In my research on issue, task and defect tracking, I’ve studied the value of online issue tracking.

Time Management Tips To Make More Money

While this article title says it all, one cant help but realize that in a way,l saving time is making money if the time saved is put to making money.  This is an approach that may seem a bit odd at first but when you reallly sit down to think about it, it’s true if time is money (there is a neat equation that ends up being the less you know the more you make) which in a metaphysical sense, could mean when we get out of our own way, we have the freedom to step outside of our little box and make more money, and be happier as well.  But that is the metaphysical version.  Read the article for the more practical reasons.

If you want to make more money, you need to manage your time very carefully and avoid anything which distracts you and takes you away from the primary focus. It is important to develop a clear methodology. Here are some suggestions.

Avoid the shiny objects syndrome. Many people who want to make money online get distracted with all the ads they see for the next big deal which promises instant wealth with no work, etc. etc. Avoid trying a lot of new programs since they are very distracting.

Choose a plan and stick with it. If you have decided that you want to promote affiliate products through article marketing, then develop a detailed plan and stick with it. To make money online does take work and there is no avoiding it.

Develop a daily set of plans and goals. Plan out what you need to accomplish that day. For example it might be to create and submit five articles on a particular topic. Create a checklist each day and then do whatever you can to accomplish that.

If you weren’t able to complete the goals you set out for the day, try to figure out why. Then revise your plans as necessary.

Check emails on a set schedule. Emails are very distracting. You may be working on an article and then…BLAM….you get an email from someone. You may stop to read it and respond to it. The next thing you realize is that it’s an hour later and you’ve totally lost your train of thought!

It is better to set specific times to review and respond to your emails. That way you can be focused on the things you need to get done. Try it. You’ll be amazed how much more efficient you can get.

Mastering and Learning Time Management Skills

Learning good time management skills can make the difference between success and failure, however, the real difference isn’t necessarily in the skill specifically, but in the mindset of the individual.  Once the mindset is appropriate, the skill comes easily and naturally.  This article is about what to do once the mindset has been established.  Read on for more!  Unfortunately, there isn’t a good followup link to find more information but you can get more info here:

Time Management Tips

You know that good time management skills can make a real difference in your productivity, but it can be hard to create the habits that you need to consistently implement those skills. There’s no need to get overwhelmed – you can master time management with a few consistent steps.

First, and perhaps the most important part of time management is keeping track of just what you need to do. This is where you need a list, or several lists. If you need to get something done, you need to have it written down. Writing down what you need to do frees you from having to think about it.

Why is that important? If you have to remember to do something it keeps surfacing in your mind over and over – even when you should be focused on something else. Your productivity for all tasks is reduced because your mind feels it’s important to keep interrupting what you’re doing to remind you of something else you need to do. If you write down what you need to do on your to-do list or on a sheet of paper in your inbox your mind knows that you’ll get back to that task.

Take things that you write down and put them on a master task list.

This brings us to the next time management principle. Put action steps on your task list. Don’t just write down that you need to work on “Project X.” Write down your next actual step for “Project X” such as “Call Jenn at 333-4444″ or “Write proposal.”

By doing this you look at your list and see exactly what you need to do. You don’t waste valuable time figuring out what step should come next. You’re able to jump right in and get to work.

Some time management experts argue that you don’t need to prioritize your work – that you should be able to look at your to-do list and know what is top priority and work on that. However, I find it works much better to add priorities. You can pull a few tasks from your master to-do list and add them to a daily list. Then prioritize them. This works because you know you don’t stop one task until you’ve completed it. It helps you stick with it.

A final tip to get you mastering time management is to reduce distractions. You can set up the most effective system in the world, but it still won’t work if you’re getting distracted every few minutes. Pick the next task on your to-do list and stick to that task. If you think of something else you need to do while you’re working write it down and put that paper out of the way – and out of your mind. Commit yourself to what you’re doing right now. Close your internet browser and chat windows if you need to. Route your calls straight to voicemail. Turn on some music and focus. Do whatever it takes to remove distraction and stick to your task until the end. You’ll find that you work much more quickly and more effectively.

Use these few principles to maximize your work and develop time management skills that truly bring you greater productivity. Your to-do lists will show you the difference, and you’ll be motivated to continue your new habits.

Leadership and Time Management – Can Busyness Be Wasting Your Time?

I like this article because in one line it says just how easy it is to think one thing when really another things all together is happening.  In this case, when it comes to time management, much of the time we feel like “where did the time go?” and we feel that the time we were being productive because we were “busy”.  Well this article explains why that may be such an illusion.  Read on for more!

Time management seminars usually focus on “getting more done in less time.” Sounds pretty good right? I thought so too, until I started coaching and found that the majority of my clients were wasting more time being busy than they could ever waste doing “nothing.” Think about it: if you fill your schedule with tasks which COULD be delegated to one of your team members, what are you missing out on? Most of the time, it’s the ability to engage your most valuable tool for creating positive change: your creative imagination.

Napoleon Hill said it well:

“More gold has been mined from the thoughts of man than has ever been taken from the earth.”

This “mining” is done by tapping into the creative imagination, and the only way to do this is turn the volume down on the other “white noise activities” in your life. As you’re reading this, is it possible that you’re pursuing success and achievement with such haste and intensity that you’re blurring right past it?

Let’s look at some solutions for getting out of the trap of busyness and moving towards effectiveness…

Find and Protect Your Sanctuary

Every leader needs a sanctuary from the noise of activity and busyness in their life. For Jesus, it was long walks in the wilderness, sometimes for days or months at a time. For me, it’s been the beach with nothing more than my dog and a notepad. What will it be for you? It doesn’t matter really, what matters is that it’s a place you can protect from ANY potential distractions.

In other words, don’t take anything with you that will remind you of what you’re “missing” back in the “real world.” No cell phone, no lap top, no blackberry, no time keeping devices (watches etc). Just you and your thoughts, and some means of writing down your thoughts if you were to be suddenly struck with a good idea.

Most of us are astounded at the wealth of wisdom and insight which exists on the inside of them. In one afternoon at your sanctuary, you could get the idea that sends your life in an entirely new direction. For example, after working for 5 years as a coach and refining the methods that helped people to get true results, I took a week long sabbatical to Long Boat Key. After the first three hours of lying on the beach, I had the entire foundation of Value Driven Transcendence down on paper.

Now, here’s the hard part…

Get Ready to Face What You’ve Been Running From

Whenever one of my really busy clients starts doing this, they are almost always struck with a feeling of meaninglessness which Victor Frankly calls the “existential vacuum” (See “Man’s Search for Meaning”). This is what happens when you get used to cramming your life with activities for the sake of feeling “successful” and suddenly stop to have a look at what’s really happening inside you.

While this is hard for ALL of us to face at first, once you do you’ll discover one of the most fundamental truths of becoming a person of influence:

“The person who faces themselves can face anything.”

So go find your sanctuary, visit it often, protect it from distraction, for there you’ll find your happiness, your courage and a wealth of creativity and power that’s been awaiting you.

3 Effective Time Management Tips For Parents

When we become parents, time management becomes even more of a necessity.  Our workload increases dramatically.  Not only do we have to manage ourselves, but we have to manage others as well.  Having a good system in place will cause the minimal amount of disruption to the family and to the parents as well.  Single parents have it even tougher and will really need good time management systems in place to keep things running smoothly.

As a working parents, you need to juggle between you work and family. Which is more important and which should be prioritized? These are the questions which are always faced by parents. Letting loose either side would only wait for problems to surface. Although time management can be easily applied at work, parents often faced difficulties in organizing their household activities as in like the household chords, picking and sending kids to school, and spending quality time with kids. Time management is important and should be applied to balance both your work and family.

It is not easy to cope with a changed lifestyle when you become a first time parent. Fortunately, through certain proven and helpful instructions in time management, parents would be able adapt much better to the new setup.

- Do whatever that deemed important

As parents, you have to identify what is important and has to attend to immediately. This is part of the skill in time management which you have to master. Recognized the fact that you are no more alone, you still have your little ones to take care. They are definitely your main obligation.

I am not saying that you can put your job aside. No, to do that would only put you and your family’s finances at stake. You have to handle different situations differently. Determine what your top priority is, and make sure you go to the next in list as soon as you have completed you top priority.

To have good time management, you can also list down whatever has to be done on that day. Prioritize them base on the degree of urgency. With the list, you will not only able to do the important activity first but also able to complete a day’s duties.

- Share your work loads at home

Traditionally, it is not uncommon that the household chores are the wives job. It is, however not quite true today. Husbands can now come into the picture in helping out with the household chores. With two pairs of hands working at the same time, the household chores can be completed at a faster rate, leaving you with more time for you kids or other jobs.

Grown up kids can also share the work load with the parents. Parents can teach their children to be responsible by getting them to tidy up their rooms, make their own bed and even wash their own clothes. That way, each and every family member has their own duty to accomplish; chores can be done at a shorter time. All these are positive results brought about by good time management.

- Plan out in advanced

To plan out in advanced is a must in good time management because it ensure that you complete the tasks in time and that every things is done within the set timing.

When it comes to the time when a mother or some time a father, has to cook for the family, he or she may delay for a while to figure out what to cook for dinner. It is advisable to plan out your menu beforehand so that when its time to cook for the family, you already know what to cook.

An efficient time management also requires you to plan your shopping list and time beforehand. Without a shopping list, you stand a chance to miss an item that you need to buy. Time would be wasted if you have to come back again to get the item. With a shopping list, not only you will not miss any item, but will also finish your shopping at a much shorter time.

To have effective time management is crucial for parents nowadays, especially when time have to be spent on both family and work. Learning and applying the tips above will not only help parents to complete all necessary tasks, but also have more time to spend with the family.
